Hometown Doctor Begins Family Practice

Loading...

MohyuddinYusuf Mohyuddin likes his hometown so much, that after finishing his residency, he moved back to the area to start his practice as a family physician.  Dr. Mohyuddin recently joined the medical staff of Saint Anthony’s Health Center, with an office located at 1311 D’Adrian Professional Park in Godfrey.

“I chose family practice during my clinical rotations because I like the idea of treating the entire family as a unit and seeing patients of all ages,” Dr. Mohyuddin said. “And I always knew I wanted to come back home.”

A 1991 graduate of Alton Senior High School, Dr. Mohyuddin attended Saint Louis University where he earned a master’s of public health degree, specializing in community health, a bachelor’s of arts degree in chemistry, a minor in biology and a certificate in theater.

He was awarded a scholarship to the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, and recently wrapped up his residency at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where he has been since 2004, through the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Medicine.

His vast and varied past experience as a medical student includes interning at the Indian Health Service in Anchorage, Alaska and working for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Rockville, Md., both as part of the Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
He also spent time working in an Amish community at the Whispering Pines Health Center in Arcola, gained experience working in rural communities such as Galesburg, Princeton, Hardin and Jerseyville and co-authored a clinical research study, “Efficacy of Thymectomy in Myasthenia Gravis,” published in the May 1995 issue of “Missouri Medicine.”

In medical school he observed obstetric and gynecological procedures at the Carle Clinic and Hospital in Urbana as part of the Medical Doctor Advisor program.

“I’ve achieved a huge goal by completing my education and residency,” Dr. Mohyuddin said. “Now my ultimate goals are to be a successful physician, help people and become actively involved in the community. I think I will also be able to put my experience in public health to good use.”

Dr. Mohyuddin has received a number of awards throughout his academic and working career, including the Outstanding Student Award for Brown Bag Radiology Conference and several photography awards – one of his favorite hobbies.

Dr. Mohyuddin was married less than a year ago to his wife, Maliha, also a physician but currently not practicing.
