Thirty-seven teams of golfers and a group of Sisters, plus a Hall-of-Famer and a Bird were present at the Tenth Annual Saint Anthony’s Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, held June 7 at Lockhaven Country Club. Red Schoendienst, St. Louis Cardinals Hall-of-Famer, donated his time to the fundraiser, which is expected to raise over $75,000 for Saint Anthony’s Cancer Services.
“We are so blessed to have Red Schoendienst participate in our tournament each year,” says Diane Schuette, AVP of Marketing & Development for Saint Anthony’s. “What a great day – with Fredbird greeting golfers and Red putting for the teams.”
The event was co-chaired by two board members of Saint Anthony’s Foundation: Dwight Werts, President & CEO of Werts Welding, and Liz Nelson, Community Volunteer. “The support of area business and industry to the Sisters and Saint Anthony’s is extraordinary,” Schuette adds.
About a dozen Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, sponsors of Saint Anthony’s Health Center, sold 50/50, raffle tickets and candy chances during the day. Additional activities of the tournament included a silent auction during dinner, as well as cash prizes for the first, second and third place teams in three flights. A raffle for a set of Nike golf clubs, valued at $800, was won by Bonnie Souders of Swansea, Illinois.
