Breast Health Awareness Month
(October 4, 2011) – In recognition of October as Breast Health Awareness month, Saint Anthony’s Health Center is presenting the month of ‘PinkTober’ for both the community and the Health Center
staff. ‘PinkTober’ activities include educational information on breast health and mammography pledge days, plus special restaurant promotions that include free coffee!
“Saint Anthony’s PinkTober stresses the importance of mammography and creates awareness of early detection and treatment options,” says Larry Reed, M.D, Chief of Radiology for Saint Anthony’s Health Center. “By increasing the number of cancers detected in the earliest and most curable stage, the lives of many women could be saved.”

Friday, October 14 & 28 -- Pledge Days! Stop by and pledge your commitment to have a mammogram or schedule your loved one for a mammogram and you’ll be eligible to win fabulous prizes! Pledge Day in the Saint Anthony’s Health Center Cafeteria on October 14 and in the Saint Clare’s Hospital Cafeteria on October 28.
Thursday, October 20 -- Girls Night Out: Mission Partners! Get your annual mammogram, learn more about breast health issues for our team of clinicians and enjoy a night out. Complimentary cheese/wine, mini mani/pedi’s, bra fittings and more! Limited registration. Call 618-465-2264 to register.
Thursday, October 20 -- Saint Anthony’s Night at Gentelin’s! Enjoy dinner at Gentelin’s on Broadway this night and Gentelin’s will donate 10 percent of its sales to Saint Anthony’s Breast Cancer Services. Commemorative wine glasses to all diners. Gentelin’s is located at 122 East Broadway in Alton.
Friday, October 21 -- Lunch & Learn. Lunch & Learn with Christina Wickenhauser, Oncology Manager, about Breast Cancer Basics at 12 Noon in the Lobby Conference Room at Saint Anthony’s Health Center. Box lunch included.
The Week of October 23-29 – Cup o’ Joe! Free coffee in commemorative pink coffee mugs for the first 1,000 customers at Joe K’s Family Restaurant, 2530 State Street in Alton.
Each customer who wears pink in Saint Anthony’s Gift Shop on Fridays in October receives a special 25 percent discount in the Gift Shop!
In addition to the educational opportunities scheduled during the month, Saint Anthony’s Mission Partners are using their scavenger hunting skills to find hidden pink ribbons throughout the Saint Anthony’s and Saint Clare’s facilities in the “Hunt for Pink Ribbons” activity. Departments who discover all 25 of the numbered PinkTober Ribbons win free pizzas for their staff!
