Saint Anthony's Hospice Mission Partners and Hospice Volunteers teamed together with Willow Rose Rehab and Health Care in Jerseyville to make a Hospice room for patients and their families. A special dedication of the room was held in October for physicians, clinicians, clergy and volunteers. The room has been fully remodeled with new paint, carpet, furniture and special warm room accents.
“Saint Anthony’s Hospice and the hospice volunteers wanted to provide nursing home residents and their families a place where they could gather for a peaceful, uninterrupted goodbye and felt that a hospice room would provide just that,” said Brenda Wyman, Director of Saint Anthony’s Hospice.
“Although hospice patients have a poor prognosis, hospice is not about dying. It’s about receiving appropriate treatment,” adds Brenda. The Bella Serenity room (meaning Beautiful Peace) at Willow Rose is the first dedicated hospice room in the Jerseyville area.
“Working with the nurses and staff at Willow Rose will provide Saint Anthony's Hospice patients the best possible care in a calm and soothing environment for both the patients and their families.”
Saint Anthony’s Hospice is committed to helping patients live their life to the fullest to the end, as well as to helping people who are grieving after the loss of a loved one. “Hospice provides a holistic approach to patient care at the end of life and provides patients and family members with an opportunity for spiritual growth during this final phase of life,” says Brenda.
As part of National Hospice Month, Saint Anthony’s Hospice volunteers will be selling hospice bracelets and ornaments at Alton Square, beginning Friday, November 23. As each bracelet or ornament is sold, a white butterfly will be placed on a Christmas tree and a light will be lit. All proceeds benefit the patients of Saint Anthony’s Hospice.
