Patient Prep Instructions

 

For your convenience, pre-surgical patient prep instructions and directions to Saint Anthony's Health Center are listed on our webiste.  For information on all Pre-Surgical Radiology Services, call 618/465-4520

Outpatient Testing at Saint Anthony's Health Center, Saint Anthony's Way, Alton.  Parking available in covered parking structure.  Report to Saint Anthony's Health Center Outpatient Registration Desk on the ground/lobby level.

PROCEDURE:  Excretory Urogram/IVP
Preparation:
1. Push liquids in the late afternoon and early evening, at least one large glass of water per hour, or more.
2. Low residue supper, avoiding milk products and cheese, in particular.
3. One bottle of X-Prep at 2 p.m.
4. No food after midnight.
5. May have a moderate amount of liquid by mouth during the night and into the morning.
6. May have a cup of coffee or tea in the morning prior to the test, no cream, but may have sugar, if necessary.

PROCEDURE:  CT - Outpatient, Abdomen and Pelvis
Preparation:
Do not eat any solid food 4 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Any liquids are permitted up to the time of your exam.
1. Drink 1/2 bottle of barium 2 hours before exam time.
2. Drink 1/2 bottle of barium 1 hour before exam time.
The barium may be refrigerated. 

PROCEDURE:  CT - Outpatient, Abdomen
Preparation:
Do not eat any solid food 4 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Any liquids are permitted up to the time of your exam.
1. Outpatients are instructed to arrive 30 minutes early to drink 1/2 bottle of barium.
2. Should the patient choose to pick up the barium, please drink 1/2 bottle of barium 30 minues before exam time and bring the remainder of the barium with you to the hospital. 

PROCEDURE:  CT - Outpatient, Pelvis
Preparation:
Do not eat any solid food 4 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. Any liquids are permitted up to the time of your exam.
1. Drink the entire bottle of barium 2 hours before exam time.
The barium may be refrigerated. 

PROCEDURE:  Mammogram  | WOMEN'S IMAGING CENTER: 618/474-6152
Prior to Your Appointment:
1.  Do not apply deodorant, powder or lotion the morning of your appointment. Residue from deodorants and./or antiperspirants leave a residue, which can be detected by X-rays, thus distorting the mammogram.
2.  Dress comfortably for your appointment. You might consider wearing a two-piece outfit, such as slacks or a skirt and blouse, for your convenience. You will be provided a hospital gown for the procedure.
3.  If you have had a previous mammogram from a facility other than Saint Anthony's and are able to obtain copies of your films, please bring them at the time of your appointment for our radiologists to view.
4.  Try to schedule your mammography appointment right after your menstrual cycle as the breasts are less sensitive at this time.
