Acute Rehabilitation Unit
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU), located at Saint Clare's Hospital in Alton, Illinois, is a CARF-accredited facility for rehabilitation with a stroke specialty, providing quality comprehensive services to adult (minimum age 18) and senior adult patients who have suffered disabling accidents or illness, and who have the potential to improve with specialized care.
The goal of this program is to provide concentrated therapeutic assistance through a variety of clinical disciplines in an effort to meet the total needs of the person.

Patients who benefit from Acute Physical Rehabilitation:
- Any individual with injuries or illnesses which affect the brain - including stroke, traumatic brain injury and other neurological disorders.
- Any individual with a spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, congenital deformity, or polyarthritis.
- Any individual with hip fractures or other orthopedic conditions as appropriate.
